Caronport Mayor Paul Blankestijn has mixed feelings about winning his community’s mayoral election by acclamation last week.
“We were really hoping to see several people wanting to step forward,” he told the Times-Herald on Friday, adding it still feels good to again serve his community.
Blankestijn became Caronport’s mayor halfway through the last term. He won a byelection after previous Mayor Royden Taylor died.
Blankestijn said he’s hopeful the lack of competition for the mayor’s seat this election indicates the community is pleased with his performance as mayor, rather than suggesting possible political apathy.

Joining him on council is acclaimed incumbent Coun. Dan Buck. The village office still needs one councillor and is calling for nominations, due Wednesday.
As the City of Moose Jaw prepares for its upcoming municipal election, other communities in the local area are also preparing for the Oct. 28 polls, although there are several acclamations.
