A 200 page report was hand delivered to Moose Jaw from a transportation consulting firm discussing short- to long-term suggestions for implementing new strategies for the city’s current position on infrastructure.

“We’ve given them the appropriate information that they need to move forward, and we’re really excited to see the move forward,” said Nadine King, part of Boulevard Transportation Group, who spent two years on creating the report.

Here’s my interpretation of King’s comment, or what could possibly have been running through her head at the time of delivering the above quote, “Please move forward! Myself and the coworkers have laughed, cried and turned to the bottle after late nights of pulling our hair out over the data collected on your infrastructure. This is what we tell our children at night to keep them in line –– ‘you better be a good girl, Suzy, or we’ll ship you off to the land of Moose Jaw, where you’ll be swallowed by a pothole!’”

Another suggestion brought up by King during her delivery was for the city to meet with existing school districts to establish safe travel routes for students due to a failure in having a properly networked sidewalk system.

My personal interpretation of King bringing this point to light has me believing what could have been running through her mind was, “Your infrastructure is so bad, your children’s lives are and continue to be in grave danger. Maybe if you spend enough time discussing this with teachers they can pull a Sally Struthers on the Friendly City by reminding it, ‘What about the children?’”

Another sad gem from the transportation report that stood out included the reminder we have traffic lights from the 1950s still in operation.

That’s too sad and depressing for even a self-described cold hearted cynic as myself to even try to joke about.
