Some things happen every year or even every few years but there are a few exciting events that capture a nation and come along once in a generation.
When one of those once-in-a-generation events happens, you should take the opportunity to be a part of it because it will be a long time before it comes along again, if ever.
For Moose Jaw, just such a once-in-a-generation event will be happening Sunday when the Olympic torch stops at 15 Wing and then comes through downtown Moose Jaw arriving at the Civic Centre for a little while before heading on to Mortlach and, eventually, Vancouver.
For those who remember the Calgary Olympic torch relay in 1987 and 1988, that event was a special memory and one they have shared with younger generations. Now, those people get to relive that moment by witnessing this year’s event.
As for those who were not around to see the Calgary Olympic torch relay, Sunday’s event will now be something they can tell their children about in the future. And the next time Canada hosts the Olympics, which likely won’t happen for at least 20 years, they can get the younger generations excited about the torch run by regaling them with tales from this year’s event.
It may just be a flame but what it symbolizes is very special. For Moose Javians who get a chance to witness it on Sunday, this is a special opportunity to see such a rare event that should not be missed.
