A dream in Moose Jaw is coming closer to reality with an announcement that Moose Jaw’s Habitat for Humanity will soon have the entire $120,000 it needs to build its first house.
Earlier this week, it was announced the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity hopes to begin building its first house in May. Thanks to a pledge from the Moose Jaw Real Estate Board to raise the final $20,000 needed, the new group is ready to start doing what it was created to do.
A global charity that has been operating for years, Habitat for Humanity arrived in Moose Jaw in 2008 with the goal of doing what the organization has been doing around the world — helping those in need own their own homes.
After more than a year of fundraising and organizing, the group will soon be doing just that.
Next week, there will be a meeting where prospective families can learn more about the program and how to qualify. Then, in the spring, the nails will likely start hitting the wood.
It is great to see Moose Jaw support its own chapter of this charity and hopefully it will continue to grow over the years.
