As potential homeowners have learned over the past couple nights, the potential is there to own a home thanks to Habitat for Humanity but this is no free ride.
Habitat for Humanity hosted a series of information meetings earlier this week for families interested in owning their home with the help of the charity.
As was made clear at the meetings, the lucky family who is the recipient of the charity’s first home in Moose Jaw is not just going to be given a house.
The recipients of the new how will have to pay a mortgage of between $350 and $600. The only upside for them is that the mortgage is interest-free with Habitat for Humanity acting as the bank.
Plus, the recipients will have to put in 500 hours of work to help build the home.
Obviously not everybody interested in applying will receive a home right away, if ever, but the project offers a great opportunity to some people. And when something is earned and not just handed out, people often appreciate it much more, which is what is good about this project.
It’s nice to see that this opportunity has come to Moose Jaw and hopefully it will continue for years to come.
