Another provincial budget has come and gone and still no mention of the renovations to Moose Jaw Union Hospital.
Health care is a provincial responsibility so, no, the multiplex is in no way to blame for this. Provincial funding for the multiplex comes out of a separate budget that has absolutely nothing to do with health care and if the province had turned down Moose Jaw’s request for funding for the multiplex, that money would have gone elsewhere — probably for yet another Regina venture.
The city has been collecting a surcharge for the hospital renovation for a few years now and if the province continues to ignore our health care needs, the city will eventually raise enough money to do the renovations on its own. And whatever money the province should have set aside for Moose Jaw’s hospital will go elsewhere — probably a Regina hospital.
And if we continue to lose the services of specialists in Moose Jaw due to lack of facilities here, maybe the province can build us a new Moose Jaw hospital — in Regina.
