Moose Jaw’s eyes will watch the news with interest once Moose Jaw’s own John Nancarrow begins his tour of military duty in Afghanistan.
The corporal in the Lord Strathcona’s Horse based in Edmonton will be part of Operation Taskforce 110 and is expected to deploy to Afghanistan in a few weeks time where he will be a loader in a Leopard 2A6M tank.
Nancarrow is aware of the dangers involved in this mission, but as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces is prepared to face those dangers in the service of his country.
He knew of those dangers and the possibility of a tour of duty in Afghanistan when he joined the regular force in 2008 after he was laid off from his job at XL Beef.
However, Nancarrow is no stranger to the military. He was a cadet as a teenager and later joined the Saskatchewan Dragoons as a reservist. In both cadets and the reserves, he received military training that whetted his appetite for more of that lifestyle. Soon he will be in the thick of Canada’s most recent combat operation, attempting to bring stability to Afghan life.
The best wishes for his safety go with Nancarrow as he embarks on this latest exercise of his love affair with all things military.
