Greener and cleaner city

This week’s rain makes last week’s wind look even worse.

As the rain begins to turn the lawns a nicer shade of green, scattered debris of all kind following Friday’s blustery weather detracts from the beauty. It will take a fair amount of work to collect all the unwanted trash from ditches alongside highways entering the city. And it will also take a fair bit of work to gather all the thoughtlessly discarded drink cups, hamburger wrappers and chip bags around the city.

Most homeowners will do their part to clean the debris that settled in their yards following the wind, but others will wait for the next wind to blow their problem into someone else’s yard.

The city has already started its street cleaning and hopefully by the end of the first round most of the dirt that collects along city streets over the winter will be swept up.

So now it’s up to us to finish the job in our neighbourhoods.
