People sometimes point out that athletic accomplishments garner more attention than scholastic or artistic accomplishments. But there’s a time for each.
Right now, we are seeing the best of the arts with the recent drama festival, music festival and dance carnival and the upcoming dance festival and band festival all happening in the spring. This is their playoffs. It’s the time of year the various artistic MVPs are named.
Scholastic awards are handed out at different events (science fairs, spelling bees, history fairs, etc.) and in the spring and fall when schools hold awards nights, graduations and commencement exercises.
There is indeed a time to recognize the accomplishments of individuals in various fields.
With athletics, the competitions happen in a specific season as well, but in various sports throughout the year. And each season ends with playoffs to decide a champion.
All accomplishments are important to the individuals, the sports or art form or scholastic level the individual represents and to society. As a group, we enjoy seeing people succeed or exceed in a field. It helps some strive to improve and other to simply marvel.
