Wow! What a day for excitement and optimism.

During Monday’s regular council meeting, Moose Javians became aware the Regina Regional Opportunities Commission (RROC) is making a bid to bring the 2013 Juno Awards (which celebrates Canadian musical excellence) to Evraz Place in Regina.

While the main event would take place in that city to the eas of ust, the RROC bid would see other Juno activities come to the Friendly City, including the popular NHL veterans-vs.-Canadian musical celebrities on-ice match called the Juno Cup.

If Regina wins its bid for the Junos, multitudes of adoring music and hockey fans would have the privilege and pleasure of enjoying this lighthearted and fun-loving Canadian tradition within the majesty of the downtown multiplex, showcasing the top-quality local facility to a happily — and surprisingly unexpected — nation.

City manager Garry McKay (at Monday’s council meeting) said the prospect of the Juno Awards coming back to Saskatchewan in 2013 is likely. Aside from hosting the Juno Cup, Moose Jaw could anticipate hosting other Juno cultural events at such local venues as Mae Wilson Theatre.

That seems like a lot of positive return for a mere $50,000 Juno bid commitment from the City of Moose Jaw (Regina’s commitment totals $350,000).

As was the case with Saskatoon and Prince Albert in 2007, Regina and Moose Jaw would, no doubt, work together to promote a fantastic cultural event that would highlight the best of each city and demonstrate, once again, Saskatchewan is a jewel of Canada.
