Vandalizing public park space must be among the more obnoxious of criminal pastimes. Why would anyone purposefully damage property created for the enjoyment of all, including those who would cause the unnecessary damage?
Graffiti in Crescent Park is thoughtless and rude to the many Moose Javians and visitors to the Friendly City who partake of the picturesque urban green space.
Indeed, the downtown park is a large gem of the local cityscape. City crews maintain the area, keeping it pristine for all.
Not every community has such an extensive and centrally located park area. Crescent Park is one of the best parts of this city. It is something for which all citizens should feel a great deal of civic pride.
However, to see a piece of graffiti splattered on this taxpayer-owned property is most disheartening. It speaks of a complete lack of concern for the community as a whole and leaves the law-abiding pedestrians in a helpless position of having to see such rude and unwanted expressions of this unsolicited and illegal “art.”
While the “artists” who create graffiti might consider their works legitimate, it is a pastime that comes at the expense of everyone else. There are more productive ways in which one might be creative — less hurtful ways as well.
It is the job of every Moose Javian to love and care for this city. To vandalize a public park hurts everyone, including the person who commits the vandalism.
