Fifteen Wing has always played an important role in and around Moose Jaw.

On Monday the change of command from outgoing 15 Wing commander Col. Marc Bigaouette to incoming wing commander Col. Paul Goddard took place.

In the past two years, Bigaouette and his family have made their presence known in the community. From attending Remembrance Day ceremonies, Decoration Day ceremonies, graduations and many other functions, Bigaouette has done his best to strengthen his bond with the community and the relationship between the community and 15 Wing.

Since 15 Wing is part of the Canadian Forces and taxpayer's money goes in part to fund those programs, it is only fitting that the relationship between 15 Wing and the community be strong and it should remain that way.

Bigaouette often led community activities, supported charities and worked towards getting the skeleton trail paved from 15 Wing to the city, among many other things.  He played a role in arranging a show for the Snowbirds to fly over downtown Moose Jaw during Sidewalk Days.

For his contributions to society, Lt.-Gov. Vaughn Solomon Schofield presented Bigaouette with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal at the change of command ceremony.

Goddard has a lot of military experience and has been to Moose Jaw twice before, first as to earn hi pilot wings and second to serve as chief of staff responsible for all 15 Wing support functions. He was awarded the Royal Canadian Air Force Commander’s Commendation for his work and leadership leading a team of instructor pilots.

There is no doubt that this is a promising sign for 15 Wing’s latest commander. With a wife and three children, it is now Goddard’s duty to take charge of some of the things Bigaouette started and to continue the strong bond between the military and the community of Moose Jaw.

Let’s hope that as wing commander, Goddard can continue the hard work and community projects that were started by his predecessors and making positive contributions to the community.
