Moose Jaw is hosting the Western Canadian Classic (WCC) Dairy Show beginning Tuesday.
This is the 25th anniversary of the show which will run until Aug. 29 at the Golden Mile Arena. The show consists of 90 to 100 dairy 4-H children from western Canada.
"The kids will be arriving Tuesday and range from 12 to 21 years old," said Neil Crosbie, organizer of the event.
The children will be taking part in various competitions throughout the week, starting Wednesday.
There will be 30 children from British Columbia, 30 from Alberta and 20 from both Saskatchewan and Manitoba at this year's event.
"This is the first time that Moose Jaw has hosted the WCC, and the first time in many years that a dairy show has been held in the city," said Crosbie.
The children will compete in dairy quizzes, clipping, they will have their dairy cattle judged, a showmanship of their calves, conformation classes and a stall display.
"This year's theme for the stall display is 25 Mooveless years," said Crosbie. "We are excited to see what some of the kids will come up with this year."
Crosbie said the public is welcome to attend any of the competitions but recommends Friday and Saturday's events.
An opening ceremony will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by the showmanship classes and the special alumni showmanship classes.
Saturday will be the conformation classes beginning at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the awards banquet later that night.
"The kids will be awarded individual awards as well as a premier province award," said Crosbie. "There will be a lot of kids at this event and all over Moose Jaw."
