Sprinter Keegan Arnyek broke his arm playing cornerback for the Vanier Collegiate senior boys football team two seasons ago. Little did he know that this injury would pave the way for Arnyek to find a new sport he would enjoy.

Arnyek took up track and field and has been training at the Excel Athletika club in Regina ever since.

That training has produced some impressive results for Arnyek like earning a gold medal in last year’s high school provincials 100m.

But the Grade Ten student didn’t plan on waiting until summer before he won another gold, so he attended the Saskatoon Downtown Lions Sled Dog Open Indoor Track and Field Meet this weekend to add to his medallion collection before the weather gets warmer.

Arnyek didn’t disappoint. He finished first in the Juvenile 60m Dash posting a time of 7.32 seconds in the finals, which was slightly better than his time in the prelims which was 7.35.
