About two and a half weeks ago, Moose Jaw native David Mitchell had a full time job like many 25-year-olds. He was working for a mutual fund company in Hartford, Connecticut and played some hockey and pickup lacrosse games on the side to stay in shape.
The National Lacrosse League team he played eight games and scored 16 points for last season, the Philadelphia Wings, didn’t invite him back to camp as they told him they wanted to field more local players to cut down on travelling expenses, said Mitchell.
But halfway through the season, the 1-6 Wings struggling in a 16 game regular season, Mitchell got a surprise phone call halfway through the year and signed with the Wings and scored five points in his 2010 debut Feb. 27 against Buffalo.
