Moose Jaw wrestler Braydon Parsons went to the AAU Grand Nationals wrestling competition in Butte, Montana on the weekend without many expectations.

Little did Parsons know that he would come back across the border with a ton of hardware, two gold medals to be exact in both the Freestyle and Folk Style events.

The reason for his doubt was in he finished fourth at the 2010 Canadian Cadet/Juvenile National Championships in Vancouver on May 16, so he was a little hesitant as he went into wrestle in the United States. After all, our southern neighbours take their wrestling very seriously.

“I wasn’t looking to do too great because the U.S Nationals are huge,” said Parsons.

He admitted after the weekend that he was shocked to have won not only one, but two gold medals at in Montana in both events he competed in, the Freestyle and Folk Style events.

“It’s kind of a big shock for us all,” said Braydon’s father Lewis. “For him to win it and to win two in one whammy, that’s pretty good.”
