Two Moose Jaw runners took home bronze medals in the 800-metre run Friday at the Saskatchewan Summer Games in Meadow Lake.

Morgyn Olmstead finished third in the girls 800m on the track and Austin Avery was third in the boys 800m.

That was the extent of the medal haul for South West on the day as the Games come to a close later today.

Nathan Sanford of Moose Jaw just missed out on a high jump medal as he finished fourth.

It was a good day for South West in archery as five of their six competitors advanced to battle for medals on Saturday.

The South West boys continued to have a good run in volleyball.

They won two tight games in the re-pool before losing 23-25, 25-18, 15-9 to Lakeland in the playoffs. They will continue to chase for a medal today.

In their re-pool games they beat Team North 25-19, 19-25, 16-14 and they beat Rivers West 25-23, 16-25, 15-10.

In girls volleyball, South West lost 25-23, 20-25, 15-12 to South East in the re-pool.

They beat Rivers West 25-17, 25-23 in the playoffs before losing 30-28, 25-12 to Prairie Central.

South West lost the boys soccer semifinal 2-1 to Saskatoon. Clay Coward scored the South West goal.

They will now try to win a bronze medal when they play Prairie Central today.

In softball the South West girls were defeated 9-2 by Saskatoon and then lost 6-0 to Parkland Valley. They finished pool play with a 1-2 record and will meet Regina in a tough quarter-final today.

Darian Barnie finished fifth in the individual dressage event in equestrian.

The rest of the equestrian events will conclude Saturday.
