Bearchell finishes second overall at districts

The foursome team of Peacock Collegiate will be headed to provincials, as will Leighton Bearchell as an individual.

After finishing first in the team scores, Bearchell, Nathan Corrin, Avery Bender and Central’s Bevin Hudson will be competing at provincials next weekend at the Cooke Municipal Golf Course in Prince Albert.

Bearchell finished second overall in the individual event with a score of 73. Tyrin Foley of Bengough scored a 69 for top spot. Riley Grona from Coronach and Corrin from Peacock finished tied for third with a score of 76 at the Harbor Golf Course in Elbow.

“It was pretty good,” said Bearchell. “I got off to a pretty shaky start. I think I was three over through four holes, and then I managed to get it to two over for the round. I finished up all right, just not too good of a start.”

Bearchell stated he had some trouble with his driver and had some errant tee-shots that made his round difficult early on.

Bearchell had golfed at the Cooke Course before and has some mixed emotions going into provincials.

“I’ve played there four or five times and it is a pretty nice golf course…it is not very long, but you have to be very accurate off the tee,” he explained. “I have mixed emotions…it depends on how I’m hitting my driver. If I can keep it in play, I can definitely score there, but if you are missing fairways on that golf course, you can shoot a pretty high score.”
