This weekend will see finale for basketball and hockey

The Briercrest Clippers men’s volleyball team wrapped up their regular season with a couple losses to Medicine Hat College over the weekend. The Clippers sit in fifth place and Medicine Hat sits in fourth.

On Friday, the Clippers opened the match winning two sets, but then Medicine Hat came back to win the next three sets. Kyle Pankrantz led the way for the Clippers with 11 kills.

On Saturday, Medicine Hat continued their strong play, defeating them in three straight sets. Pankrantz had seven kills in the loss.

The Clippers women’s volleyball team finished their season over the weekend with two losses and a four game losing streak. On Friday, they lost three straight sets to Medicine Hat. Erin Anderson and Elly Wendel each had four kills in the match.

On Saturday, the Clippers played much stronger, but lost in five sets. Anderson had 13 kills in the loss.

The Clippers men’s basketball team still sit in first place and have secured a playoff spot already. On Friday, they defeated Medicine Hat 96-89 and veteran Gradyn Childerhose led the way with 40 points and 12 rebounds.

On Saturday, the Clippers continued to click as they won 81-71 over Medicine Hat. The scoring was dispersed more in this game with Matt Myers leading the way with 18 points.

The team will final their season finale on the road against St. Mary’s University College this weekend.

For the Clippers women’s basketball team, they dropped two losses to Medicine Hat.

On Friday, Hannah Klassen led the way with 13 points and six rebounds, but it wasn’t enough, as the Clippers fell 67-52.

On Saturday, the Clippers pushed in the fourth quarter, but it just wasn’t enough as they fell 67-44. Tracy Frimpong had 14 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

They will play their season finale this weekend against St. Mary’s University College.

The men’s hockey team played a tough opponenet in the third place Augustana team over the weekend.

On Friday, the Clippers lose 10-2 as Manuel Schellenberg scored on the power play and Lucas Ford scored his third of the season.

On Saturday, Augustana was just too much for the Clippers again and they took it 8-1. Pierre Landry scored the lone goal for the Clippers.

Briercrest will wrap up their season next weekend at home when MacEwan comes to visit.
