Lil Chicago Roller Derby

If your New Year’s resolutions involved new challenges and being more active, Moose Jaw’s Lil Chicago Roller Derby may have just what you’re looking for.

The roller derby league is looking for new skaters and is offering a chance to try the sport every Sunday in January.

The “fresh meat intake” open houses will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday at the gymnasium at 15 Wing Moose Jaw. There will be equipment and four-wheeled skates to try and experienced skaters will be on hand.

No experience is necessary and most of the current LCRD skaters had no prior experience when they took up the sport.

The league welcomed some new skaters in December and is hoping to have more newcomers join their ranks.

Women, men, boys and girls aged six and older are welcome to attend. The league is looking for junior and senior skaters, coach support, referees, officials and volunteers.

The LCRD are also still selling their 2014 calendars. The calendars — which feature shots of junior and senior players and coaches in vintage locations and garb — are available from any LCRD player for $18 or two for $30.
