St. Patrick's Day may have been Monday, but it was a good day to be wearing green Tuesday at Peacock.

The Lindale Lions girls basketball elementary Tier I champions include Camryn Gillies, back left, Haley Rosso, Olivia Nichols, Katherine McDougall, Kirstie Johnstone, coach Dwight Olney, Tamra Reeve, middle left, Taylor Mantel, Stdney Sperling, Jordan Boulton, Cassidy Bruce, front left, and Jenna Armbruster.

The green-clad Lindale Lions completed an unbeaten league season with a 47-24 win over the Cornerstone Christian School Falcons in the Prairie South elementary girls Tier I basketball final at Peacock.

"They're just a very hard-working bunch of girls" said Lindale coach Dwight Olney. "Everybody worked hard. We had a great season and I'm just really thankful for the opportunity to coach these girls."

The Lions repeated as champions. They haven't lost a game to a team from Saskatchewan in two seasons and also captured the South Central District Bantam basketball title with a win over Cornertsone earlier in the season.

"Lindale is a very good team. We were 22-5 this year and four of those losses came to Lindale," said Cornerstone coach Al Block. "We wanted to come in and battle with all we had and we did. Our motto all year was to always compete and we did that. We left everything on the floor."

Olney felt his team got off to a bit of a rough start, but his experienced team quickly got on track.

"We couldn't get the motor going, but once they did they did a lot of the things that they've been doing for years," said Olney. "The leadership of Katherine McDougall, Jenna Armbruster and Cassidy Bruce was just outstanding. When you have a chance to have three girls of that calibre on the floor at the same time in elementary girls, I'm just a lucky coach.

"They've got a lot of experience and a lot of club ball. They're the kind of kids who have been in the gym since they were young, so it's really natural for them."

McDougall led the Lions with 13 points, while Bruce added nine. Eight different players scores for Lindale.

Grace Geradts from Cornerstone led all scorers with 15 points.

In the Tier I girls bronze medal game Sunningdale beat Prince Arthur 43-39.

Palliser Heights won the Tier II gold medals in girls basketball.
