Jake "The Snake" Roberts is coming to Moose Jaw on May 25 as part of a Gold Dragon Wrestling card at the Heritage Inn.
The newly minted WWE Hall of Famer will be in Moose Jaw on May 25th as part of a big card of Gold Dragon Wrestling.
"We're excited to have Jake this year. When we had Ted DiBiase come in (in 2010) he had just been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as well," said Jan Armstrong from Gold Dragon. "It's a great credit to add a legend like Jake The Snake to the Gold Dragon wrestling roster. We're excited to have him."
In addition to Roberts, Colt Cabana will be on hand at the Heritage Inn for the event.
Cabana is the star of the popular Art of Wrestling podcast.
"He is CM Punk's best friend in the whole world," Armstrong said of the noted WWE Superstar. "They broke into the business together, worked in Ring of Honor together and travelled the world together.
"He started the Art of Wrestling podcast and his career has skyrocketed in the last three years on the independent circuit. He's probably the single-most successful independent wrestler of the last 20 years. He's an amazing professional wrestler, he's a great artist in the ring … but he's known for his comedy style of wrestling. He's really entertaining."
Roberts was World Wrestling Federation star from 1986-92. He was notable for bring his snake Damien into the ring with him and for his finishing move — the DDT. After working for other companies — including WCW — he returned to WWF from 1996-97. Stone Cold Steve Austin's famous Austin 3:16 catch phrase came out of a bout with Roberts at the King of the Ring Tournament.
Cabana will be wrestling Bobby Sharp. Whether Roberts will step into the ring remains to be seen.
"Jake has expressed interest in possibly stepping in the ring. He's not afraid to get in the ring and work. Anything can happen in Gold Dragon Wrestling," said Armstrong.
In addition to Roberts, Cabana and Sharp, the card will feature Matt Critic, Zamiel Dezaster, the Family Jules and Kat Von Heez.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Kids 12-and-under get in free if accompanied by an adult. The doors open at 4 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m.
Tickets are available at all of the show's sponsors.
Gold Dragon is also selling tickets through Joe's Place Youth Centre and Diversified Services. Five dollars from each ticket sold there goes back to the respective non-profit.
"I have a soft spot for Diversified Services and the people who work there and what they do," said Armstrong. "Diversified Services, a lot of their clients come to our shows. They've showed us a lot of support with what we're trying to do with professional wrestling in Moose Jaw. "I've known Joe from Joe's Place for 20 years. I used to help out with the Youth Centre years ago. What he's doing with the youth is so important."
