On the opening night of the Memorial Field season, there wasn't much to choose between the local teams and the visiting Blues of Keeseekoose.

The Park Hotel Giants played the Blues to a 3-3 tie in the first game of a double-header Thursday night and the Canadians scored a walk-off 3-2 win in the nightcap.

Canadians 3 Blues 2

The Canadians left it late against Keeseekoose.

The trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh when Kyle Ward started the inning by reaching on an error. Dane Roy singled to keep the rally going before Jeff Weekes hit a two-run triple. After the Blues intentionally loaded the bases Sean Lougheed hit an RBI single to win the game for the Canadians.

Blake Dixon got the start for the Canadians and allowed two runs off of six hits in four innings of work.

Giants 3 Blues 3

The Giants got off to a fast start in the opener, but couldn't carry the momentum forward.

Tyler Kieferling was hit by a pitch and stole second base to lead off the bottom of the first. Pat Swallow cashed Kieferling in and Darryl Callaghan hit a two-run home run to put the Giants ahead 3-0 after four at-bats.

The hits got a lot tougher to come by as Blues pitcher Justice Keshane struck out six straight Giants and collected his 10th strikeout of the night in the fourth inning.

Jessi Stevenson had a pair of doubles for the Blues as he scored and drove in a run. Keeseekoose tied the game in the top of the seventh. The Giants loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't get the winning run across the plate.

Kieferling added a double for the Giants and Swallow also had a pair of hits.
