Novice Mustangs finish off season with successful weekend at festival

The Moose Jaw Mustangs finished with three wins and a loss in their four games at the Novice Lacrosse Festival that concluded their season.

Moose Jaw Lacrosse

The Mustangs beat the Saskatoon Roughnecks 7-3, defeated the Saskatoon Rock 8-3 and beat the Regina Swarm 8-4. The Mustangs lost 5-2 to Lloydminster to wrap up the festival.

The Mustangs got off to a good start at the festival as Liam Fitzpatrick scored twice in their opening game win.

Brennan Watterson, Josh Johnson, Kaleb Mercer, Rowan Calvert and Braxton MacAngus also scored for the Mustangs.

Rhys Turcotte earned the win in goal.

Fitzpatrick and Calvert each scored twice to lead the Mustangs to their second straight win.

Ethan Johnson, Josh Johnson, MacAngus and Rhett Chute also scored in the win. Watterson and Mercer each picked up an assist.

Lloydminster 5 Mustangs 2

Fitzpatrick gave the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead and scored his second goal of the game late in the second period to tie the game. However, Lloydminster scored with three seconds left in the middle period to take a lead and added two goals in the third period to put the game away.

Braxton Beaten picked up an assist for the Mustangs.

Mustangs 8 Swarm 4

The Mustangs bounced back with a big win over their Queen City Box Lacrosse League rivals from Regina.

Ethan Johnson scored a hat trick, while MacAngus scored twice and added an assist. Fitzpatrick also scored twice. Clavert had the other Moose Jaw goal and Watterson chipped in with an assist. Turcotte was once again the winning goalie.

The Swarm beat the Mustangs in the Queen City Box Lacrosse League gold medal final recently.
