The Moose Jaw Ice were in a class of their own at the under-16 girls B fastball provincials.

The local team went unbeaten as they rolled to the title at home. The Ice beat Langenburg 8-1 in the final at the Softball Saskatchewan U16 B Girls provincial championship Sunday.

Moose Jaw was unbeaten in their three pool games and beat the Melfort Heat 13-1 in the semifinal.

"It's great when you play at home and you win at home. The kids deserved it. It's been a long season. It's the middle of July and the kids are still playing. They're really dedicated," said Ice coach Greg Fiddler.

There may not have been much drama in the final, but it didn't do anything to quell the excitement the Ice had during the final out.

"It feels great," said Ice shortstop Jaydon Weiterman. "It was really exciting. It's our first year winning provincials as a team."

The Ice didn't head into the provincial tournament on the most positive note, but they scored four runs in the first inning of their first game and were rarely challenged.

"We had a week of practice where we didn't look so sharp," said Fiddler. "So I was a little nervous going into it, but we have some kids stepped up, they really did."

The Ice had a good weekend from all 12 of their players and didn't have a weak link as they out-scored their opponents 61-8 over their five games.

"We did a lot of good things in those games obviously. We hit. There were no errors. It was good. The kids are great. We have a good bunch of athletes, good ball players and this is the best team I've ever had," said Fiddler.

Ice 8 Langenburg 1

The Ice only led 1-0 after two inning, but used a pair of errors to build a 3-1 lead after three innings.

They broke the game open in the fourth when Casey Power laid down a strong bunt and advanced to third on an error. She quickly scored and was followed by a double by Weiterman, a single from Hana Giddings and an RBI single from Ceanna Bruce. Katie Marzolf also singled and Darby Fiddler drove in a run as the Ice went ahead 7-1.

"I didn't think it was going to be this easy, but our most competitive game was our last game," said Weiterman. "We hit really well this weekend."

Weiterman walked, stole second and then came around to score thanks to some head's up base-running.

Mrazolf had two hits and Fiddler, Katie Aparicio and Emily Reidy all hit safely.

Ice 13 Melfort 1

Mikayla Swallow hit a two-run single in the first inning and came around to score as the Ice took a 5-0 lead in the semifinal.

In the fourth, Swallow and Amanda Robbins led off the inning with walks and came around the score. Kirah Brown hit an RBI single and Kiana Avery had an RBI double to keep the rally going. Weiterman hit a two-run double as the Ice put four more runs on the board to take a 13-1 lead.

Weiterman scored twice and drove in three runs, Swallow scored three times, had two stolen bases and two RBI.
