The Memorial Field boys will be playing for all the marbles as the men's city fastball championship series begins today, pitting two rival teams against each other in what could be a high-scoring match up.
The Giants and the Canadians will hit the field tonight (8 p.m., Memorial Field) and the bats will likely play a key role.
"Whoever hits, wins," says Todd Whitehead of the Giants. "Traditionally we've been a strong hitting team. This year, I don't know if it's age or what, but we're not hitting the ball as well. So if we hit the ball, we'll win. I have 100 percent confidence in that."
Sean Lougheed of the Canadians expects their opponents to be ready for a battle.
"I'm expecting they're going to come out hard. I think it's going to be pretty high-scoring," he says. "Lots of hits and maybe a few home runs. Provided that the defense makes the plays they need to, I think it will be a close series."
Whitehead paints the match up as a test between age and young.
