The night may have been dark and cold, but the Park Hotel Giants weren't about to go quietly into it, so to speak.
Instead they let their bats do the talking, loud and clear, as they mercied the Canadians 8-1 in five innings Thursday to tie the Memorial Field men's fastball championship series at 1-1.
"Wasn't exactly the way we wanted to come out tonight," said the Canadians' Sean Lougheed. "We got off to a slow start (with) a couple errors right off the start. Seemed like they got the momentum, kept it, and we couldn't get it back."
After striking out their first three batters in the first inning, the Giants found their offense in the second, scoring four runs on four hits. They added another four in the third to take an 8-0 lead. Darryl Callaghan and Todd Ortman scored two runs each, while Scott Moerike had a run in the second and a three-run home run in the third. Brett Friesen scored the Canadians' lone run in the fifth.
Both teams predicted this series would be determined at the plate, and this game seemed to be evidence to that as the Giants outhit their opponents 10-4.
