The fielding an ineligible player has had big ramifications for the Melville Millionaires baseball team.
The Western Major Baseball League team lost its share of the 2009 league title and the Okotoks Dawgs have been awarded the title in full.
In addition Mills governor and coach Garnet Keller has received a life suspension from being the governor of any WMBL franchise and he has a three year suspension from coaching. Mike Green, the Mills assistant coach last season, has been suspended one year from coaching in the WMBL.
“They deceived the executive committee and the commissioner and the board of governors,” said WMBL president Merv Ozirny.
In order to eligible to play in the playoffs, a player must play three games before the roster cut off date of July 10. Keller and Green signed a document that stated that the player in question had played three games before the roster deadline.
When it was determined that the player was not even in the country before the deadline the pair were suspended.
