he Moose Jaw Canucks midget baseball team were feeling good about themselves after the round robin stages at the 2010 Midget A Provincials Saturday Sunday at Ross Wells Park.

They posted an impressive 2-1 record, but unfortunately for them, so did two of their poolmates, the Lumsden Cubs and the Pilot Butte Broncos.

Because of the three-way tie, the Canucks were slotted in the tiebreaker against the Cubs, who were first in the PMBL Midget AA regular season with a 10-3 record.

The Canucks already beat the Cubs in the round robin with a 7-3 win over the Cubs, but could not repeat their success as they lost 10-7 in a your-turn, my-turn kind of game. Although it was a loss, Canucks coach Rod Markewich said he pleased with the effort for his team in the game and in the tournament as a whole.

“Overall, I was pretty happy with the outcome. It was a back and forth battle,” said Markewich. “We scored and they tied it up, then we’d score and they’d tie it up again.”

The Canucks came out of the gates flying with a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Cubs tied it in the second. Both teams traded runs until the sixth inning, where the Cubs took the lead for the first time in the game, a 10-7 lead which would end up as the final score.
