The Moose Jaw Miller Express now have a strangle hold over their WMBL playoff opponents, the Melville Millionaires with Saturday’s 6-2 win.
The Express lead the best-of-five series 2-0, with both of their wins coming on the road.
Starting pitcher Arturo Maltos-Garcia got the win for the Express as he went eight innings deep, scattered seven hits, gave up two runs and struck out seven Millionaires. Unlike Friday, when the Express went to the bullpen, there were no issues. Cory Ridenour pitched the ninth inning and although he surrendered a hit and a walk, he did not surrender a run.
The game was tied until the fifth inning when the Express scored three runs before adding two more in the seventh.
The Express had nine hits in the game, with two each second baseman Jon Cotter, DH Matt Balogh and third baseman Jess Cooper for the second consecutive game.
After committing seven errors on Friday, the Millionaires committed another four on Saturday. The Express only had one error on the game.
Express hurler Marshall Dean, who has been lights out in his last two starts, is expected to pitch Sunday’s 7:05 p.m. start at Ross Wells.
The Saskatoon Native shutout the Millionaires on Wednesday in five innings of work in his last outing, and pitched six shutout innings with eight strikeouts against the Edmonton Prospects July 22.
