The Moose Jaw Giants Masters team have flown out of the gate at the the 2010 Master Men’s Western Canadian Softball Championship as the hosts with a 4-1 record.
The Giants added two more wins on Saturday at Caribou Heights by the same score of 12-8 over the Edmonton Stoned Rangers in the afternoon after beating the Northwest Territories at noon.
The Giants have been piling on runs throughout the first two days of the tournament and that’s a testament to how they have been able to find that clutch hit when they need it.
“I think everybody’s contributing. Where there’s opportunities to advance runners, guys are doing the job and we’ve been getting quite a few clutch hits,” said Giants clean up hitter Armand Jeannott. “It’s about guys approaching it as smart hitters and looking for good pitches.”
Like their male counterparts, the Moose Jaw Nevada Nickels Relics has hit other teams around to get a good start to the 2010 Master Ladies Western Canadian Softball Championship.
The Relics are now 2-0 with a 12-5 win in six innings over Kamloops (B.C) to open the tournament, before beating the Calgary Wave 9-4.
Although they were getting the sticks working on Friday at Caribou Heights, Saturday’s games against the Saskatchewan Connextion and Alberta’s Silverline club could be more challenging games.
