Michael Hunt enjoys being the head coach of the Moose Jaw Miller Express.
At the same time, the Express board have been pleased with the job he’s done over the past two season. Given that, it didn’t take long for the two parties to agree to a one-year contract extension for Hunt Tuesday afternoon.
“I’ll say the same thing I said last year — it was a no-brainer,” said Hunt after agreeing to return for his third season in the dugout next spring.
Hunt appreciates the working relationship he has with the Millers board and how that translates on the field.
“I love the organization. I love the direction from the top down,” he said. “They facilitate baseball. They just let it happen. They have their suggestions, but it’s a great atmosphere to be a part of.
“It’s really easy to be a part of this organization when you have good leadership from the top down. You don’t have to sift through a lot of middle management to get things done.”
Express president Darryl Pisio is happy with the direction the team is headed and feels that retaining Hunt — and the stability that brings — will only help them prosper further.
“When you look around the league, the teams that have had success are the teams that have been able to keep that coach in place,” said Pisio.
“Coach Hunt has been extremely good for Moose Jaw.”
