After the first three days of the 2010 Canada Cup in Kindersley, Team Saskatchewan, equipped with five Moose Jaw South Country Equipment Cardinals Midget AAA players, are 2-1 and are still very much in the playoff hunt as they will finish up the round robin with two games Saturday against Alberta and Nova Scotia.
Their only loss came in their last game Thursday night against Prince Edward Island in a 10 inning, rain delayed marathon that ended late at night with a 10-8 score.
“We still control our own destiny, but we had opportunities against P.E.I. but just didn’t In the strange back and forth battle, Team Sask lead 7-3 after three innings, but P.E.I. put up a 5-spot in the fourth inning to turn the tide in their favour.
“Going into the top of the fourth inning, it looked like we were in pretty good shape but we walked a couple batters, made a mistake then they get a few back-to-back hits,” said Anholt. “Then their pitcher hits a triple with the bases loaded and all of a sudden we’re behind.”
The P.E.I. pitcher in question is Brody McDonald and he was a thorn in the side of Team Sask both on the mound and at the plate. He was 2-5 with four RBI’s and two runs and went eight innings deep striking out 11, but also walked eight and gave up eight earned runs and six hits.
