Moose Jaw Miller Express

After such an emotional and adrenaline-filled home game on Wednesday night, the Moose Jaw Miller Express had some difficulties on Thursday evening.

The Melville Millionaires continued their strong play as they came out firing and belting 17 hits against the Express, but couldn’t find the answers in a 12-2 loss.

“It wasn’t great,” said Michael Hunt, head coach of the Express. “It was a good old fashioned butt kicking…that’s what that was.”

The Express came out strong in the first inning, scoring two runs, but were shutout the rest of the game. Josh Carroll and Mike Gilleland each had doubles and Gilleland and Scott Jones had the only runs batted in for the Express.

“We came out fine in the first inning and did our damage with five hits, but then we scattered four for the rest of the eight innings,” said Hunt. “We came out firing, but then maybe expected it to be easy and started taking bad at bats and getting out on a few. Take nothing away from their pitcher as he got stronger as the game went on. They are a good team, but we certainly made them look a lot better than they were.”

The Millionaires put three runs on the board in the second inning, another run in the third inning, another in the fifth inning and six runs in the sixth inning before adding another run in the seventh inning.

“They found a lot more barrel than we did,” Hunt said.

Drew Evans pitched just over five innings, striking out three, walking two and the Millionaires scored eight runs on 10 hits.

“He was okay, but his shoulder started to give him a little bit of a problem towards the end, so he had a short hook,” said Hunt. “Then we ate up some innings with Brennan Reidy and Ben Wylly.”
