Local team will be holding a scrimmage game at RWP at noon on Saturday
Ten years ago a team of local Little Leaguers beat the odds.
Jon Cotter, bottom, seen here in action with the Moose Jaw Miller Express, is one of the former members of the 2004 Moose Jaw Little League Junior All-Stars who will in town for the team's reunion this Saturday.
The Moose Jaw Little League Junior All-Stars won a national title in 2004 and went to Taylor, Mich. to take part in the Little League Junior World Series.
This weekend the team is getting back together to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their title season.
"Time goes by really fast. I'm looking forward to seeing the guys and catching up with them," said Kevin Meacher who coached the team along with Cody Murdock and Mark Gould. "I've run into some of the guys over the last two or three years and we've discussed that it would be kind of cool to have a 10-year reunion to get everybody back together and see everybody again."
The team will have a dinner and a reception Saturday night, but will be playing a game Saturday afternoon at noon at Ross Wells Park. The game is open to the public for anyone wanting to attend.
Meacher lives in Regina, while Gould is coming back from B.C. for the weekend.
The coaches were only 20 when they coached the All-Stars. Meacher has coached teams since, but said that team will always be special.
"It was a great group of guys. The chemistry was great and everyone got along," said Meacher. "I've coached a fair number of teams over the last 10 years and the players and parents we had on that team were top-notch."
The timing of the reunion couldn't be better for Meacher. His boss at the City of Regina is coaching the Regina North Little League team that was playing at the Junior Little League World Series this week.
"It's really allowed me to relieve the experience and it's brought back a lot of memories," said Meacher. "I talked to him about what to expect and what we would have done differently if we had it to all do over again."
