Vanier splits pair of games in senior basketball

The Vanier Vikings have had their share of rim-rocking contests in the Ned Andreoni gymnasium, but nothing compared to what they had with the Riverview/Cornerstone Royals Thursday night.

A slam dunk by Vanier's Leif Fryklund in the third quarter badly damaged the rim and forced the contest to end prematurely, with the Royals taking a 56-37 victory.

It's expected the basket will be repaired early this week, well in time for the Andreoni Memorial Invitational during the Dec. 11 weekend.

Brody Wasmann led the Royals with 16 points, Dillon Pinfold scored 14. Payton Hillsdon led Vanier with 14 points.

In senior girls action, Kehlsie Crone scored 23 points as the Vanier Spirits took an 83-21 win over the Assiniboia Rockets. Jenna Kinchen was Assiniboia's top point-getter with nine points.

The title says that Vanier "wins pair", but the article says that the RVCI/CCS boys won 56-37. What actually happened last night?
