Like most games this season, the Vanier Spirits senior girls basketball team let their opponents hang around for a quarter or two before turning on the jets and leaving them to eat their dust.
One of the explanations that head coach Bob Gottselig had for this was that the Spirits are so deep that they can run their entire bench and stay fresh throughout the game, while other teams relay on shorter benches.
“One of our assets is our depth,” said Gottselig. “The other teams play some good basketball and they play right with us early on, then they wear down as the game progresses.”
Tuesday’s game had a similar plotline at Vanier against the Central Cyclones, as Vanier went on to win 82-53, but had their hands full with the Cyclones early on.
