Back in 1980, Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of the Los Angeles Lakers beat “Dr. J” Julius Erving and the Philadelphia 76ers in six games to win the NBA Championship. Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope while musical acts like KC and the Sunshine Band, Blondie and Queen dominated the charts.
The year 1980 also happens to be the last time the Riverview Royals senior boys basketball team claimed a Moose Jaw city title.
But tonight, the Riverview/Cornerstone Royals have a chance to change that, but in order to do so, they have to take on one of the province’s best 4A boys teams, the Peacock Toilers.
The game is at 8 p.m. at SIAST.
