The defending Hoopla champion Vanier Spirits took the underdog role to heart when they were deemed the best 3A senior girls basketball team in the province at last year's Hoopla championship in Regina.
This year, making it two first place finishes in a row is providing the Spirits with the motivation they need this time around at Hoopla, starting today in Saskatoon.
“(We're) going for the dynasty,” said Spirits Grade 12 guard Kehlsie Crone. “(Last year) we wanted it so bad, we worked so hard for it. We were the underdogs and knowing we weren't favourite to win and I think that was the extra push that helped us."
