Part of creating a winning college basketball program involves creating a certain culture that will foster success.
Gene Wolverton, head coach of the Briercrest College men’s basketball team, feels new recruit Travis Krahn has talent, but also embodies what he’s looking for as the program moves forward.
“The thing that defines Travis is that he’s one of the hardest working players I’ve ever seen,” said Wolverton.
Entering his second season in charge, Wolverton felt that Krahn is an example of “the culture I would like to have in our program as far as work ethic and dedication to self improvement — both on and off the court.”
Krahn begins his day at 6:30 a.m. in the gym at Garden Valley Collegiate in Winkler, Man. working on his game. After school the six-foot-one guard is either practicing or lifting weights.
The hard work paid off with a sterling senior season for Krahn.
He posted a career high 51 points in one game — hitting 14 three-point shots in the process. He also drained 10 three-pointers in one game as he put up 44 in that contest. He averaged 28.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and five assists per game in his senior season.
Krahn has also earned a spot on the Manitoba provincial age-group teams three years in row.
