Former Peacock basketball player Troy Gottselig has been selected to join the Canadian development men’s national team for their summer tour of Europe.
The 6-foot-8 forward from Findlater completed his senior season at the University of Saskatchewan in the spring. He is one of two CIS players to have been selected for the 14-man roster.
Gottselig, 24, is coming off of a great season that saw him average 14.0 points-per-game and 8.4 rebounds-per-game with the Huskies.
He capped his senior season by leading the Huskies to their first CIS national championship where he was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Gottselig had 22 points and eight rebounds in the Huskies 91-81 win over UBC.
The national development team will spend two weeks playing in four European countries. Their first game is Sunday and the tour concludes Aug 1. The Canadians will face the Ivory Coast, Belgium, Great Britain, Finland, Netherlands and Spain.
The development team is coached by Leo Rautins and features former national team players, including former Seattle Supersonic Denham Brown.
Upon the conclusion of the tour, athletes from the team will be selected to continue with the senior men’s national team training camp in August.
