Simmons qualifies for the Olympic trials

Moose Jaw’s Pat Simmons made the most of his second chance to advance to the Roar of the Rings Olympic curling trials.

   

Simmons and his Davidson rink of third Gerry Adam, second Jeff Sharp and lead Steve Laycock qualified from the Road to the Roar Olympic pre-trials Friday in Prince George, B.C.

   

Simmons beat Mike McEwen 7-5 in the ‘B’ qualifier.

   

Earlier Friday Simmons beat Wayne Middaugh 7-6 in an extra end on the ‘B’ semifinal.

In the women’s event Amber Holland beat Kathy King 10-4 and will now meet Marie France Larouche in the ‘C’ event final Saturday night.

The Roar of the Rings Olympic trials will be held in Edmonton from Dec. 6-13.
