Amber Holland lost two games at the Roar of the Rings Monday — one by less than an inch and the other by considerably more.
Holland and her Kronau foursome opened her day at the Olympic trials in Edmonton by losing 6-5 to Calgary’s Cheryl Bernard. In her second game of the day she lost 9-3 to Calgary’s Shannon Kleibrink to drop to 1-2 at the tournament.
Holland won the 1992 national junior women’s title curling out of Moose Jaw.
Local coach Merv Fonger is still coaching Holland. He said losses need to be forgotten and put in the past.
“You come here in a round robin and you try to get as many notches in your belt as you can get,” said Fonger. “It’s not a progressive draw where if you win one you move into the next bracket, so the idea is to win as many as you can. Most of the teams here have enough mental discipline to know that you move on, you don’t move back.”
