It’s tough to erase three years of Olympic hopes and dreams in three days, but Moose Jaw’s Pat Simmons is already looking ahead.
Simmons Olympic dreams were put on hold for four years after he and his Davidson curling foursome were eliminated from the Roar of the Rings Olympic curling trials in Edmonton.
“It was a really good experience,” said Simmons. “It was definitely not the outcome we would have like obviously.”
Simmons ended up being the only rink to beat eventual winner Kevin Martin, but he and third Gerry Adam, second Jeff Sharp and lead Steve Laycock found their best form elusive. They finished with a 2-5 record.
“It’s not that we played bad,” said Simmons. “I wouldn’t say it was our best event of the year though. We played a little better (at the pre-trials) in Prince George.
“Though we didn’t play bad, none of those teams are going to allow you much either. In a situation where had to play every bit as good as we did in Prince George, we didn’t meet that expectation. That’s disappointing I guess, but I don’t know what else we could have done.”
