Moose Jaw curler Pat Simmons qualified for the playoffs at the Bear Mountain Curling Classic in Victoria, B.C. and was very close to getting to the finals.
After posting a 3-1 record in his pool in the round robin, Simmons and his Davidson rink of Gerry Adam, Jeff Sharp and Steve Laycock beat Newfoundland's Brad Gushue in extra ends in the quarterfinals 5-4 before losing to eventual champions Kevin Martin 5-4, also in extra ends.
Simmons and his team get to split the $9,000 prize money they received for finishing third.
