Pat Simmons will have to wait at least another day to qualify at the Grey Power Players’ Championship in Dawson Creek, B.C.
Simmons and his Davidson foursome of third Gerry Adam, second Jeff Sharp and lead Steve Laycock lost their A event qualifier Thursday night 6-3 to Brad Gushue from St. John’s, Nfld.
Simmons will now face Sweden’s Niklas Edin in the B event Friday afternoon at the World Curling Tour’s final stop in the Grand Slam of Curling.
Gushue got off to a fast start as he took two in the first end. Simmons replied with two of his own with a hit-and-roll in the second end.
The game turned in the fourth end as Gushue took advantage of a couple of half-shots by the Simmons rink to score three points.
Leading 5-2, Gushue was able to protect the lead the rest of the way.
