The top curlers in Canada will be in Moose Jaw next year as the city hosts the 2012 Capital One Canada Cup of Curling, it was announced by the Canadian Curling Association (CCA) on Wednesday morning.

“There is a great deal of excitement about the new venue in Moose Jaw, and the Canadian Curling Association is very pleased to be part of the growing excitement that Mosaic Place is bringing to the community,” said the CEO of the CCA, Greg Stremlaw. “Given the sheer popularity of our sport within Saskatchewan and the opportunity to hold one of our premier competitions in a new state-of-the-art facility, we feel that the Capital One Canada Cup of Curling is an exceptional fit for Moose Jaw.”

The Canada Cup of Curling will take place November 28 to December 2, 2012. Not only will curlers be competing for total prize money of $150,000, but also a direct bid to the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Ring, the Canadian Curling Olympic Trials. This event is the only curling event that offers direct access to the Olympic Trials.

The Canada Cup is a relatively new event to the Seasons of Champions series and Mosaic Place will be holding the 10th edition, with the CCA’s Patch Cabaret component held at Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre.

“This is such an exciting time for Moose Jaw — a new curling facility, a new amazing home for the Warriors and Generals,” said Host Committee chair Danielle Sicinski. “Moose Jaw is simply abuzz. Things couldn’t be better for us and to bring a Season of Champions event here with Olympic implications that will showcase the top Canadians men’s and women’s teams is really exciting. ”

Great to see MJ get this high profile curling event. The new Mosaic Place has enabled this prestigious event to be hosted in the heartland of appreciative and knowledgeable curling fans. We plan to be there. When and where do tickets go on sale ? Thanks, Marilyn McKee
