The third leg of the 2011-12 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling, the Pomeroy Inn and Suites National got under way in Dawson Creek, B.C. on Wednesday evening with two local curlers taking part — Pat Simmons and Joel Jordison.

Simmons is third on Kevin Koe’s rink from Edmonton, AB and they opened the tournament with a 6-4 victory over British Columbia’s Jim Cotter on Wednesday evening in the first draw.

On Thursday morning, Thomas Ulsrud from Norway upset Koe’s rink by a 6-5 score. Ulsrud scored two in the eighth end to remain undefeated through two games.

Jordison played third on Steve Laycock’s rink from Saskatoon and their tournament got underway on Thursday morning against Ontario’s Rob Rumfeldt. Scoring a point in the first end, two in the second end and two in the seventh end was more than enough, as Laycock’s rink defeated Rumfeldt by a 5-2 decision.

In draw four action; Laycock’s rink scored three in the fifth end and one in the sixth end to defeat Calgary’s Steve Petryk.

Both Laycock and Koe were in late draw five action with Laycock facing off against Jeff Stoughton and Koe playing against Brent Pierce.
