All Saskatchewan curlers between the ages of 11 and 19 could get the opportunity for a first-hand experience at high-level curling this winter.

The host committee of the Capital One Canada Cup announced on Thursday that SaskEnergy is the sponsor for the Junior Stars program when the top seven men and women curling teams come to Moose Jaw from Nov. 28-Dec.2.

“We’re excited to have SaskEnergy come on board as our Junior Stars sponsor,” stated Danielle Sicinski, host committee chair in a press release.

Applications are open for the program, which will provide young curlers with the opportunity to experience championship curling.

All curlers in the province between ages 11 and 19 are eligible to enter with one assigned to each of the 14 teams. The winners will receive a ticket for themselves and two guests, an official Junior Stars jacket, a gift package, a photo with their team and an introduction at the pre-game ceremony.

“We have found it (sponsorship) to be a rewarding experience and one that will help build the future of curling in Saskatchewan,” stated Shannon Doka, community involvement leader with SaskEnergy in a press release.

Interested applicants must submit a 150-word essay that describes, “how I give back to my community”. The deadline is Oct. 22 and one entry is allowed per person. Hopefuls can register online at curling.ca/canadacup

Winners are responsible for their own accommodation, transportation, parking and meals.
