Barker wins twice to open Southern curling playdowns

Penny Barker is halfway to her goal for the weekend after two draws at the

Sask Power women’s southern playdown in Melville.

Barker’s Moose Jaw Ford curling centre rink of third Susan Lang, second Melissa Hoffman and lead Danielle Sicinski won their first two games and are two wins away from qualifying for provincials.

Barker opened the event with a 9-1 win over Swift Current’s Teejay Haichert. They followed that with a 7-2 win over Larisa Murray from the Regina Callie.

They will play Mandy Selzer at 3 p.m. today in an A event semifinal. Candace Chisholm faces Deanna Doig in the other A semi.

Moose Jaw’s Lorraine Arguin rink dropped their opener as they suffered a 6-3 loss to Jana Tisdale from the Regina Highland club.

Arguin’s rink of third Donda Lee Deis, second Shelly Urquhart and lead Aline Kirk will meet Murray in the B event this morning.

Four teams will advance from southerns to the provincial Scotties.
